In Arbitrage, Wall Street hedge-fund magnate Robert Miller (Richard Gere) seems to have it all: an amazingly successful career, a loving family, a stunning mansion, even a French art dealer mistress. The truth, however, is that Robert is about to turn 60 and the colossal mistakes and judgment errors that he has made are about to come back to bite him. As a result of a mind-numbingly bad investment caused him to lose $400 million – half of his investment fund’s reserves. Now he’s attempting to sell his business to a major financial institution, and defrauding auditors in the process.

As things start to spin out of control Robert picks up his mistress, Julie Cote (Laetetia Casta), for a weekend get-away. Unfortunately, he falls at sleep at the wheel, causing an accident that kills her. Robert flees from the scene with the reluctant help of Jimmy Grant (Nate Parker), a former employee’s son, but soon finds himself hounded by NYPD Detective Michael Bryer (Tim Roth), who will stop at nothing in his pursuits.
